It Just Won’t Be Late Late Night Anymore

Craig Ferguson has announced that he is stepping down as the host for CBS Late Late Show. At this point, some of you might be asking, “Who is that and why should I care?” True, he hasn’t the large following that Conan O’Brien or Jimmy Fallon had in that time slot but sheesh, he was light years ahead of them (especially Fallon) in terms of turning the talk show trope on its head. The guy would do a cold open with puppets. Puppets singing. Or swearing. And then there’s Geoff Peterson, his robot sidekick. That’s right, his sidekick is a freaking robot. And his monologues were/are priceless. Above is one of the best ones.

I figure that the new several months on Ferguson’s show are going to be a little unhinged. He always has been a little devil-may-care regarding the restrictions of the format and whatever the network thinks. Now, with nothing left to lose, it could get seriously crazy. We’re usually up that late anyway and if we aren’t, this is what the DVR is made for. Buckle up, this is going to be memorable.

I will miss Craig Ferguson’s wit, charm and creativity. It’s been great to see him really come into his own after being cast on the Drew Carey Show in a role that did little to show off his talents.
